The purpose of the Standardization program is to develop, prepare and distribute grade standards and calibration standards of cotton in order to ensure uniformity in grading and enhance the worldwide marketing of cotton and its related products.
The standardization function is handled by the Standardization and Engineering Branch. The Standardization and Engineering Branch, located in Memphis, TN, prepares physical copies of the grade standards and calibration standards for use by cotton classers and by private companies and governments throughout the world. The physical forms of the grade standards are carefully prepared to accurately reflect the quality features of the official grades.
