Aged Ewes that are over 6 years of age.Cows that are over 8 years old.

Blackface Sheep expressing genetics that includes one of the blackfaced breeds.
   
Broken Mouth Aged sheep that have one or more permanent teeth missing.
   
Buck Male sheep that has not been castrated.

Confidentiality Guideline In order for Livestock Mandatory reports to be published they must meet the 3/70/20 confidentiality guideline which states that in order for a report (regional or national) to be published, at least 3 companies have to submit data 50% of the time or more over a 60-day period. No one company can account for 70% or more of the cumulative market volume for any report over a 60-day period. In cases where only one company submits data for individual reports, the same company can not be the sole reporting entity more than 20% of the time during a 60-day period.

Ewe Lambs Used on market reports to idenitify lambs that will be put into a ewe/lamb operation.

Fall Shorn A sheep with 1-2 inches of wool.
   
Fleshy Used to describe a ewe with a backfat thickness of greater than .31 of an inch. Typically reported on a market report as a Good YG 3-5.
   
F.O.B. Free on board, regardless of the mode of transportation, at the point of direct shipment by the seller to the buyer (e.g. F.O.B Feedyard).
   
Formula Marketing Arrangement Advance commitment of lambs for slaughter using a method for calculating price. For slaughter lambs the base price is not negotiated but is based on some other price (such as plant average or weighted average price) or value determining mechanism that may or may not be known at the time the deal is struck. The final net price is determined after application of premiums and discounts.
   
Full Used to describe lambs on market reports that exhibit excessive fill (water/hay weight). Lambs/Ewes have the appearance of disproportionally large mid-section (belly). Typically full lambs/ewes sell at a discount.

Gaunt Used to identify lambs on market reports that are emaciated (expressing the lack of fill). Typically gaunt lambs sell at a premium.

Hair Sheep Used to identify sheep on market reports that are not genetically from one of the wool breds.

Lambs Used to describe sheep that have a full set of baby teeth.
   
Large Frame Used to describe a feeder lamb that is expected to be finished/fat at more than 135 lbs live weight. Also used for describing ewes that will have a mature body weight of over 150 lbs.
   
Load Comment used for video auction and direct reporting to segregate sales that are full semi load lots.
   
M
Medium Used to describe a ewe with a backfat thickness of .21-.30 of an inch. Typically reported on a market report as a Good YG 2-3.
   
Medium Frame Used to describe a feeder lamb that is expected to be finished/fat at 100-135 lbs live weight. Also used for describing ewes that will have a mature body weight of 125-150 lbs.
   
N
Net Price Price paid for livestock after application of any premiums or discounts, expressed in dollars per hundred weight.
   
No 1 Muscling score that describes feeder lambs that are thrifty animals that are thick throughout. Lambs that are thick and full in the forearm and leg, showing a rounded appearance through the back and loin. Lambs that are wide between the legs, both front and rear.
   
No 2 Muscling score that describes feeder lambs that are thrifty and are slightly thick through the forequarter and the middle part of the leg. The forearm and leg are slightly thick and the back and loin have a slightly thick appearance. The legs are set slightly wide, both front and rear.
   
No 3 Muscling score that describes feeder lambs that are thrifty animals that have less thickness than the minimum requirements specified for the No.2.
   
No 1 Pelt Sheep with 5/8-1 inch of wool.
   
No 2 Pelt Sheep with 3/8-5/8 of an inch of wool.
   
No 3 Pelt Sheep with 1/8-3/8 of an inch of wool.
   
No 4 Pelt Sheep with less than 1/8 of an inch of wool.
   
New Crop Used seasonally to describe young lambs that are selling typically at a premium, while supplies contain old crop lambs.

Old Crop Used seasonally to describe older lambs that are selling typically at a discount, while supplies contain new crop lambs.
   
P
Packer Owned Lambs that a packer owns for at least 14 days immediately before slaughter.
   
Per Head Comment used to denote sheep that were sold a per head basis, instead of being sold on a per cwt. basis. Per head basis selling usually occurs when quoting replacement or bred females.
   
R
Replacement Comment used to describe mature ewes or ewe lambs that are being purchased to be placed in a ewe/lamb operation.
   
S
Shorn Lambs Comment to describe lambs that have been shorn. Typically descibed within the market report with a corresponding pelt classification.
   
Small Frame Used to describe a feeder lamb that is expected to be finished/fat at less than 100lbs live weight. Also used for describing ewes that will have a mature body weight of less than 125 lbs.
   
Short Dock Used to descirbe a feeder or slaughter lamb that has been docked short (little to no tail remaining). These lambs typically sells at a discount.
   
Sold Mouth Used to describe sheep that are 4-6 years old with a full set of permanent teeth.
   
T
Thin Used to describe a ewe with a backfat thickness of .11-.20 an inch. Typically reported on a market report as a Utility 1-2.
   
U
V
Very Thin Used to describe a ewe with a backfat thickness of less than .10 of an inch. Typically reported on a market report as a Cull YG 1.
