Marketing Order 981: California Almonds

Almonds Grown in California; Continuance Referendum. Docket Number: AMS-FV-13-0082; FV14-981-1 CR. The referendum will be conducted from February 18 through March 7, 2014. To vote in this referendum, growers must have produced almonds in California during the period of August 1, 2012, through July 31, 2013. [Notice PDF]

  • Order Authority and Regulations: Marketing order authorizes volume control authority in the form of reserve, but that program is not currently in effect. Almonds received by handlers are subject to quality regulations.
  • Research and Promotion: The order authorizes production research, marketing promotion and development. Projects in these areas are currently active. Paid advertising, including credit for a handler’s direct advertising expenditures, is authorized and currently being used. The order was promulgated on August 4, 1950, and was last amended under formal rulemaking on August 4, 2008.

 
Committee Structure: The Almond Board of California has 10 members consisting of 5 growers and 5 handlers. Each member has one alternate. The Board is divided into a cooperative marketing group and an independent group, each with two grower and two handler members. The group receiving more than 50 percent of the crop is permitted an extra grower and handler member. Members and alternates serve 3-year staggered terms beginning on March 1, except for the swing member and alternate who always serve 1-year terms.
