- Production Area(s): Washington State, Idaho, Oregon, and that portion of Nevada north of 37th parallel and that portion of Utah west of the 111th meridian.
- Order Authority and Regulations: Marketing order authorizes volume control measures to regulate the marketing of spearmint oil through annual sales allotments. Spearmint oil produced in excess of a grower’s allotment is placed into a reserve pool and used later to fill production deficiencies and unexpected demand.
- Research and Promotion: The order authorizes and has active production research, as well as marketing research and development projects. Paid advertising is not authorized.
- The order was promulgated in 1980 and was last amended under formal rulemaking on June 26, 1996.
Committee Structure: The Far West Spearmint Oil Administrative Committee is comprised of eight members, including one public member. Each has one alternate. Producer members are allocated by district. Committee members serve 2-year terms beginning January 1. One-half of the members are selected annually. Producer and handler members are nominated at district producer meetings.
