Order Authority and Regulations: Marketing order authorizes minimum grade and size regulations are authorized under the order, and are currently in effect. Volume controls in the form of free and reserve percentages are authorized but are not currently being used. Grade and size requirements established under the order also are applied to imported walnuts. Effective September 1, 2008, the order will have authority for promotion and paid advertising, in addition to research and development.

Research and Production: The order authorizes production and marketing research and development projects, which are currently active.

The order was promulgated in 1948 and was last amended under formal rulemaking on April 2, 2008.

Board Structure: The California Walnut Board consists of 10 members and 10 alternates. Four members represent handlers, five members represent growers and one member represents the public. The 2-year terms begin September 1. Producer and handler members are nominated by mail ballot.
