The Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program (SPMGP) was authorized under section 12102 of the Agricultural Act of 2014 (Farm Bill) (P.L 113-79) that amends Subtitle A of the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 (7 U.S.C. 1621 et seq) by adding section 209, Sheep Production and Marketing Grant Program.

The SPMG provided funds on a competitive basis to national organizations whose mission is to strengthen and enhance the production and marketing of sheep and sheep products in the United States including the improvement of infrastructure business, resource development, and the development of innovative approaches to solve long-term needs. Only national organizations with similar missions were eligible to apply.

On October 7, 2014, The National Sheep Industry Improvement Center was awarded $1.47 million.
