Major Provisions:

 
  • Commodity Regulated: Shipments of fresh oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and tangelos grown in Florida.
  • Crop Shipping Season: September 1 through July 31.
  • Fiscal Year: August 1 through July 31.
  • Production Area: Florida, except the area west of the Suwanee River
  • Order Authority and Regulations: The marketing order authorizes grade, size, maturity, quality, volume regulations, and research and promotion programs. Additionally, export regulations include size, capacity, weight, dimensions, and marking or pack of the container regulations. Grade and size requirements are in effect for citrus shipped to destinations outside of the production area. Volume regulations are authorized for specific varieties, but are not in effect. Shipping holidays are authorized during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons. The order was promulgated in 1939 and last amended under formal rulemaking on October 9, 2009.
  • Research and Promotion: Authorized to administer research and promotion programs, including paid advertising, for fresh Florida citrus. However, no programs are in effect. The industry currently conducts marketing research and promotion under various State programs.
  • 8e Requirements: 8e requirements specify that imported commodities must meet the same or comparable minimum grade, size, quality, and maturity requirements, as those specified under this marketing order.

 
Committee Structure: The Citrus Administrative Committee is comprised of 18 members and their alternates. Nine members and alternates are grower members; eight members and alternates are shipper members; and one member and alternate represent the public. All members serve one-year terms of office that run from August 1 through July 31. Members may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms. Producer members are nominated at producer nomination meetings. Handler members are nominated at handler nomination meetings.
