WASHINGTON, April 11, 2013 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking nominations for four members and four alternates for the National Honey Board. Completed applications must be submitted by April 30, 2013. Selected representatives will serve for three years.

The National Honey Board is composed of 10 members and their alternates, including three first handlers, two importers, an importer-handler, a marketing cooperative and three producers.

The board is looking for a first handler, an importer, a marketing cooperative, a producer and their respective alternates, to replace representatives whose terms expire at the end of the year. Nominations to the National Honey Board must be made by qualified national organizations within the honey industry.

USDA encourages board membership that reflects the diversity of the individuals served by the program. All eligible women, minorities and persons with disabilities are invited to seek nomination for a seat on the National Honey Board.

The National Honey Board meets periodically to review marketing and research activities that benefit the industry. The national program, which became effective in 2008, is industry-funded and supports the national marketing and promotion of honey and honey products. USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service oversees board activities to ensure fiscal responsibility, program efficiency and fair treatment of participating stakeholders.
