QAD Questions and Answers - National Animal Verification System (NAIS)
Q1: Is a NAIS Premise ID required to participate in USDA PVP or QSA Programs?

A: No. Companies with approved audit programs are not required to participate in the NAIS Program. However, AMS strongly encourages companies to require premise identification and NAIS compliant ear tags (840 tags). Additionally, AMS strongly encourages producers to register their premises and to consider identifying their animals with NAIS compliant ear tags.

Q2. Where can I find more information about the NAIS?

A: More information on NAIS can be obtained from the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
